International Biennial of Contemporary Art in Champion (Namur, Belgium) 12-27 Oct. 2019

"THE GATHERING" art installation, 2019

During the restoration of the Convent of the Sisters of Providence to Champion, a group of workers came across an ancient artifact.
After the discovery of the first vestiges in 2016, systematic archaeological excavations were carried out until 2018. Since then, many sculptures of human heads, placed in a circular manner, have been updated and the place gives a well-preserved image of 'a civilization and an era still unknown.

Visitors will perceive a circular shape in the park, three meters in diameter. As they approach, they will notice that the circle shows heads with conical caps emerging from the ground. Each face has a different expression, as if they were all in a conversation. Visitors will attend a frozen gathering from another era.

Specifics: The work went through a transience process, not only due to bad weather conditions, but also due to the human impact.
As a result, the work had to be restored during the exhibition.

The main materials of the sculptures are clay and ash
